ISO 19650 is a set of international standards that provides guidelines for managing information over the entire life cycle of a built asset using Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM is a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility. ISO 19650 consists of two parts: ISO 19650-1 and ISO 19650-2.

ISO 19650-1: This part outlines the concepts and principles for managing information in the construction industry using BIM. It establishes the framework for the collaborative use of BIM and specifies requirements for managing information throughout the entire life cycle of a built asset. Some key aspects include: Roles and responsibilities: It defines the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders involved in a construction project. This includes the client, lead appointed party, appointed party, information manager, and task information manager. Information management processes: ISO 19650-1 outlines the processes for information management, covering areas such as information production, information sharing, and information handover. BIM Execution Plan (BEP): The standard emphasizes the importance of a BIM Execution Plan, which is a document that sets out the processes, procedures, and standards to be followed throughout the project.

It builds on the principles established in ISO 19650-1 and focuses on the management of information during the operational phase of an asset. Information delivery cycle: It defines the information delivery cycle, which includes the stages of planning, production, assurance, and response. Exchange information requirements (EIR): ISO 19650-2 emphasizes the importance of clearly defining Exchange Information Requirements, which specify what information is needed, when it is needed, and in what format.
